Hulu’s ‘The Great’ Renewed for Season 2
Hulu has just extended the Elle Fanning’s reign by another season, by renewing the semi-historical satire “The Great.”
The first season of the comedy drama, starring Elle Fanning as Catherine the Great and Nicholas Hoult as Peter III of Russia, debuted with a 10-episode run on May 15, billed as a limited series.
The satire is loosely based on the rise of Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia. The show tells the journey of the Empress, from an outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history.
“The Great” Season 1 was “one of the top performing original comedies” on the streaming platform. With the green light from Hulu, the 10-episode second season can be expected sometime in 2021.
Earlier last month, when the show was expected a renewal nod, the Executive Producer Marian Macgowan revealed the possible situations that the second series would cover, including the class divisions in Russia, the successful coup which she organized to dethrone Peter III.
Apart from Fanning and Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow are expected to reprise their roles.
