The Crown Season 5: Lesley Manville As Princess Margaret
The fifth and the final season of Netflix’s “The Crown” will have Lesley Manville, portraying Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth II’s sister.
It has been reported that Manville will join Imelda Staunton, who was previously announced to take over the role of Queen Elizabeth in Season 5.
“I could not be happier to be playing Princess Margaret,” Manville said in a statement. “The baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses I really don’t want to let the side down. Furthermore, to play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of a complete joy.”
The Academy Award nominated actress, best known for her role in “Phantom Thread,” will take over the role from Helena Bonham-Carter, who was the Princess Margaret in Season 3 and Season 4 of the series. In the Season 1 and Season 2, Vanessa Kirby played the role of Margaret.
The historical drama, which was initially intended for a six seasons run, was cut short to five seasons, by the creator Peter Morgan, who announced the fifth and final season in early 2020. Morgan claimed that as the team began working on the stories for Season 5, it felt perfect to end it.
“The Crown’s” Season 4, expected to premiere later this year, will cover the late 1970s through 1990. The upcoming season will also welcome newcomer Emma Corrin as a young Diana Spencer ad Gillian Anderson as UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
As for the Season 5, it will more likely arrive in the second half of 2021, or might even get a bit delayed, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
