‘Tesla’ Trailer: Ethan Hawke as 19th Century Inventor
IFC Films has released the official trailer for “Tesla,” the biopic directed by Michael Almereyda, starring Ethan Hawke, Kyle MacLachlan and Eve Hewson.
The trailer was released on July 10, 2020, in celebration of the 164th birthday of Nikola Tesla, ahead of the film’s release from IFC on August 21, 2020.
“Brilliant, visionary Nikola Tesla (Hawke) fights an uphill battle to bring his revolutionary electrical system to fruition, then faces thornier challenges with his new system for worldwide wireless energy,” read the official synopsis of the biopic.
The movie is said to cover Tesla’s most noteworthy discoveries, while also shedding light on the challenges in his path to success, including Thomas Edison. The bitter feud between the brilliant inventors Tesla and Edison, with their developments of AC and DC currents, remains one of the fiercest rivalries in the history.
Almereyda’s “Tesla” is said to pack the various aspects of the inventor’s life, both professional and personal, which kind of gets entwined, when Tesla gets into a relationship with Morgan’s daughter Anne.
The role of Tesla, for Hawke, comes at a time, when he is preparing for Showtime’s “Good Lord Bird,” in which he portrays the famed abolitionist John Brown, scheduled for October launch.
